The Indian hospitality fraternity is deeply saddened by the passing of Mr. Mohan Deshpande, Chairman of the Hospitality Purchasing Managers’ Forum (HPMF), who passed away in Pune on September 28, 2026. His demise marks the end of an era for one of India’s most respected hospitality industry leaders, mentors and institution builders.
A towering figure within the hospitality procurement and supply chain community, Mr. Deshpande played a pivotal role in shaping HPMF into one of the country’s most respected professional hospitality organisations. Throughout his association with the Forum, he was admired for his visionary leadership, unwavering integrity, humility and commitment to developing future generations of hospitality professionals. His guidance and support positively influenced countless industry members across India.
Paying tribute to the late Chairman, Dr. Nitin Shankar Nagrale, Founder and General Secretary of HPMF, said: “For me, he was much more than our Chairman. He was a father figure, mentor, guide and a constant source of strength. His wisdom, affection and unwavering support have shaped both HPMF and my own journey in ways words cannot express.”
The hospitality industry will remember Mr. Mohan Deshpande not only for his professional accomplishments but also for the compassion, generosity and wisdom with which he touched the lives of colleagues, friends and young professionals. His legacy will continue to live on through the institution he helped build and the countless individuals he inspired along the way.
Only recently, on the occasion of his 75th birthday, HPMF announced the launch of the HPMF Chairman’s Legacy Series, a permanent institutional initiative established in recognition of his extraordinary contribution to the hospitality industry and his enduring legacy of leadership, mentorship and service. The initiative includes leadership awards, mentorship programmes, scholarships for hospitality students, an annual leadership lecture and sustainability initiatives, ensuring that the values championed by Mr. Deshpande continue to inspire future generations.
The entire hospitality fraternity extends its heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and the HPMF community during this difficult time.
