New catering facility, capable of producing up to 15,000 meals daily, aims to support growing airline operations and enhance the passenger dining experience.
As airline traffic continues to build at Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA), the airport has strengthened its operational infrastructure with the addition of a dedicated TajSATS flight kitchen, marking another milestone in its evolution into a full-service aviation hub. The facility is already serving more than 40 departing flights daily and is designed to support both domestic and international carriers as the airport expands its route network ahead of the Winter Schedule 2026-27.
Located within the airport precinct, the state-of-the-art catering facility currently has the capacity to produce 7,500 meals per day, with the ability to scale up production to 15,000 meals daily in line with future growth in aircraft movements and passenger volumes. The expansion comes at a crucial time as NMIA continues to attract new airline partners and strengthen its position within the Mumbai Metropolitan Region’s aviation landscape.
According to Subhash Murikenchery, Chief Airport Officer, NMIA, the investment reflects the airport’s commitment to ensuring that supporting infrastructure grows alongside airline operations. He noted that the TajSATS facility provides airlines with greater flexibility to meet increasing passenger demand while enhancing the onboard culinary experience.
The flight kitchen has been equipped with scalable production infrastructure, advanced refrigeration systems and streamlined operational processes that allow it to respond efficiently to changing airline schedules and catering requirements. Its strategic location within the airport enables quick meal delivery to aircraft, helping airlines reduce turnaround times and improve operational efficiency.
The facility also offers local meal-uplift capabilities for international carriers. This is particularly significant given that a substantial share of international airlines operating in India continue to rely on back-catered meals from their home bases. By providing high-quality local catering solutions, NMIA offers airlines a cost-effective and flexible alternative closer to the point of departure.
Beyond scale, food quality and safety remain central to the operation. The kitchen adheres to stringent HACCP, ISO 22000 and FSSAI standards and is equipped to cater to diverse passenger preferences, including special dietary, allergen-sensitive and halal meal requirements. TajSATS, a pioneer in Indian aviation catering with more than four decades of experience, also operates the flight kitchen at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport.
As NMIA continues to expand its aviation ecosystem, the TajSATS facility is expected to play a pivotal role in supporting airline growth while elevating the overall passenger experience through reliable, high-quality inflight catering.
