Sterling Holiday Resorts Expands Wilderness Portfolio with Opening of Sterling Leopard Haven Jawai

New boutique wildlife retreat in Rajasthan combines leopard safaris, local culture and immersive nature experiences in one of India’s most distinctive wilderness destinations.

Sterling Holiday Resorts Limited (SHRL) has strengthened its presence in Rajasthan with the launch of Sterling Leopard Haven Jawai, a new wilderness resort near Bera in the Jawai region. The opening reinforces Sterling’s growing focus on destination-led travel experiences and expands its portfolio of wildlife and nature-based retreats across India.

Located amidst Jawai’s dramatic granite hills and rocky outcrops, the resort offers access to one of India’s most unusual wildlife landscapes, where leopards coexist with local communities and inhabit caves and rocky terrain rather than dense forests. Over the past decade, Jawai has emerged as one of the country’s most sought-after wildlife destinations, attracting travellers looking for a more intimate and less crowded alternative to traditional tiger reserves.

Sterling’s latest property features 19 cottages, suites and villas designed to blend with the surrounding landscape. Accommodation options range from Jawai Villas with private balconies and bathtubs to Pool Villas equipped with plunge pools and secluded outdoor spaces. The resort also offers a Two-Bedroom Pool Villa designed for families and groups seeking privacy while staying together. Additional facilities include an infinity pool, children’s play area and open recreational spaces.

According to Vikram Lalvani, Managing Director and CEO of Sterling Holiday Resorts Limited, Jawai represents the kind of destination where the travel experience extends far beyond wildlife sightings. He noted that while leopards may initially attract visitors, the region’s landscape, culture and local communities often leave a lasting impression.

The appeal of Jawai extends beyond safaris. The nearby Jawai Dam attracts rich birdlife and offers opportunities for birdwatching and nature excursions, while interactions with local Rabari communities and visits to tribal villages provide insights into Rajasthan’s rural heritage. The destination’s growing popularity reflects a broader shift in traveller preferences towards experiential tourism, where culture, nature and authentic local connections are becoming as important as sightseeing.

Food also plays a significant role in the guest experience. At the resort’s restaurant, Jawai Vista, visitors can explore regional flavours through traditional dishes such as Methi Bajra Khichda, Panchkutte ki Subzi, Mathania Chicken and Jawai Laal Maas, alongside chef-curated specialties inspired by local ingredients. Outdoor breakfasts, safari picnics and immersive dining experiences further connect guests with the destination.

Manish Gurani, Owner of BMMR Hospitality LLP, said the vision behind the project was to preserve Jawai’s sense of discovery while creating a comfortable base for travellers to spend more time exploring the region. He added that Sterling’s expertise in building destination-led travel experiences made it the ideal partner for the property.

Strategically positioned between Udaipur and Jodhpur, the resort also strengthens Rajasthan’s leisure circuit, creating a natural wildlife stop on itineraries traditionally focused on forts, palaces and heritage cities. For Sterling, the launch forms part of a broader expansion strategy centred around reasons to travel, whether wildlife, nature, spirituality, wellness or culture, rather than simply adding properties in new locations.
