Campari Group has introduced Espolòn Tequila in India with three expressions, aiming to capitalise on the country’s growing demand for premium spirits and cocktail-led consumption.
Campari Group has officially launched Espolòn Tequila in India, marking the Mexican tequila brand’s entry into one of the world’s fastest-growing premium spirits markets. The launch includes three variants, Espolòn Blanco, Reposado, and Añejo, which are initially being rolled out across Mumbai, Goa, Delhi-NCR, and Bengaluru.
Produced from 100% Blue Weber agave in the Highlands of Jalisco, Mexico, Espolòn is positioned around authenticity, craftsmanship, and Mexican heritage. The brand is targeting consumers through cocktail occasions such as Margaritas, Palomas, and Picantes, while also focusing on premium home consumption, gifting, weddings, and travel retail channels.
Shivam Misra, Managing Director, India & the Sub-Continent, Campari Group, said the brand offers a fresh perspective on premium tequila, emphasising sociability and accessibility rather than exclusivity. The company believes the launch aligns with changing consumer preferences as Indian drinkers increasingly seek spirits with strong provenance and craft credentials.
The tequila’s production process reflects its distinctive identity. Founded by Maestro Tequilero Cirilo Oropeza, Espolòn is known for playing classical music to the yeast during fermentation, a practice the brand says is integral to its production philosophy. Its packaging is inspired by the artwork of renowned Mexican illustrator José Guadalupe Posada and features the iconic rooster character Ramón.
Industry data points to strong growth in India’s tequila segment. According to figures cited by industry reports, the category grew by 34% in volume and 66% in value over the past year, reflecting increasing consumer interest in premium agave-based spirits and cocktail culture.
Pricing varies across markets. In Mumbai, Espolòn Blanco, Reposado, and Añejo are priced at ₹8,100, ₹9,200, and ₹12,900 respectively, while prices in Goa and Gurugram are lower due to differing state tax structures.
The launch strengthens Campari Group’s premium portfolio in India, which already includes globally recognised brands such as Aperol, Campari, and SKYY Vodka, and underscores the company’s confidence in the long-term growth potential of the country’s premium spirits market.
