IHCL Strengthens Uttar Pradesh Presence with 232-Key Gateway Hotel in Agra

Greenfield project along the Yamuna Expressway reflects growing confidence in Agra’s tourism and business potential.

Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL), India’s largest hospitality company, has announced the signing of a new 232-key Gateway hotel in Agra, further consolidating its presence in one of the country’s most significant tourism markets. The greenfield development, to be built in partnership with Raj Kailash Hospitality LLP, will be located along the Yamuna Expressway and is expected to cater to both leisure and business travellers visiting the historic city.

The signing underscores the growing attractiveness of Agra as a hospitality investment destination. While the city continues to draw millions of visitors annually to iconic landmarks such as the Taj Mahal, industry stakeholders increasingly view Agra as more than a heritage tourism destination. Ongoing infrastructure development, expanding urbanisation, new townships and proposed IT-led growth corridors are helping reshape the city into an emerging economic hub within Uttar Pradesh.

Commenting on the development, Suma Venkatesh, Executive Vice President, Real Estate and Development, IHCL, described Agra as an integral part of India’s tourism landscape and a key destination on the country’s renowned Golden Triangle circuit connecting Delhi, Agra and Jaipur. She noted that alongside its tourism appeal, the city is witnessing significant infrastructural growth that is creating fresh opportunities for hospitality development.

The upcoming Gateway Agra will feature an all-day dining restaurant, a specialty restaurant and a bar, reflecting the brand’s focus on contemporary hospitality experiences. Wellness facilities will include a gymnasium and swimming pool, while extensive banqueting and meeting infrastructure comprising banquet halls, conference rooms and meeting spaces will position the property as a venue for weddings, corporate events and social gatherings.

Industry observers note that the hotel’s location along the Yamuna Expressway is strategically significant. The corridor has transformed connectivity between Delhi-NCR and Agra, reducing travel time and stimulating tourism, convention business and real estate development across the region. The new Gateway hotel is expected to benefit from this improved accessibility while serving the growing demand for quality branded accommodation.

For Raj Kailash Hospitality LLP, the partnership represents an opportunity to participate in Agra’s expanding tourism and hospitality economy. Promoters Kishore Kumar Gupta and Mani Gupta stated that the city’s strong tourism demand and improving infrastructure make it an attractive destination for long-term hospitality investment.

The project also forms part of IHCL’s broader expansion strategy in Uttar Pradesh, one of India’s fastest-growing hospitality markets. With the addition of Gateway Agra, IHCL’s portfolio in the state will grow to 64 hotels, including 27 currently under development, highlighting the company’s confidence in the region’s long-term tourism and business travel potential.
