Accor has signed an agreement to develop its first Sofitel-branded property in Gujarat, a 250-room luxury hotel in Ahmedabad scheduled to open in 2030 as part of its ongoing expansion in India’s high-growth hospitality market.
Accor has announced the signing of Sofitel Ahmedabad Palladium Mall Road, a 250-key luxury hotel that will mark the French hospitality group’s flagship luxury brand’s debut in Gujarat. The hotel, slated to open in 2030, will be developed in Ahmedabad’s Thaltej area by Fanidhar Infra & Hospitality LLP.
The project will feature 250 guestrooms, five food and beverage outlets, and approximately 2,550 square metres of banqueting and MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions) space. Additional facilities will include wellness and leisure amenities as well as a dedicated kids’ club, positioning the property to serve corporate travellers, leisure guests, weddings, and large social events.
According to Maud Bailly, CEO of Sofitel Legend, Sofitel, MGallery & Emblems, the signing represents a significant milestone for the brand’s expansion in India and will blend Sofitel’s French luxury heritage with Ahmedabad’s local cultural identity.
Ranju Alex, CEO of Accor South Asia, said the investment aligns with the company’s strategy of strengthening its luxury portfolio in destinations with strong long-term growth prospects. She highlighted Ahmedabad’s expanding business ecosystem, rising international profile, and improving connectivity as key drivers supporting the project’s development.
Industry observers note that Ahmedabad has emerged as one of India’s fastest-growing business destinations, supported by infrastructure expansion, industrial investments and the development of GIFT City, India’s premier international financial services hub. These factors have fueled increasing demand for premium hospitality and MICE facilities in the region.
The signing comes amid a broader wave of expansion by global hotel operators in India. Several international hospitality brands, including IHG, Marriott, Radisson and Indian market leaders such as IHCL and ITC Hotels, have announced new projects across key business and leisure destinations in recent months as the country’s travel and tourism sector continues to grow.
With 77 operational hotels across India and South Asia spanning luxury, premium, midscale and economy segments, Accor is accelerating its presence in the region, viewing India as a strategic growth market for its global portfolio.
