IHCL Strengthens Uttar Pradesh Portfolio with New Gateway Hotel in Lucknow

215-key greenfield project in Gomti Nagar reflects growing confidence in Lucknow’s emergence as a major commercial, administrative and hospitality destination.

Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL) has announced the signing of a new Gateway hotel in Lucknow, reinforcing its expansion strategy in Uttar Pradesh and strengthening its presence in one of North India’s fastest-growing urban markets. The 215-key greenfield project will be developed in partnership with Kripanidhi Hospitality Pvt. Ltd. and is located in Gomti Nagar, one of Lucknow’s most prominent commercial and residential districts.

The signing comes at a time when Lucknow is witnessing significant infrastructure-led growth, driven by expanding business activity, urban development projects and increasing investment across sectors. As the capital of Uttar Pradesh, the city continues to attract both corporate and leisure travellers while strengthening its position as an important administrative, political and commercial hub.

According to Suma Venkatesh, Executive Vice President, Real Estate & Development, IHCL, Lucknow’s sustained economic growth and expanding business ecosystem make it a strategically important market for the company. She noted that the project further strengthens IHCL’s footprint in one of North India’s key growth centres.

The upcoming Gateway Lucknow has been designed to serve both business and leisure travellers. The hotel will feature an all-day dining restaurant, a specialty restaurant and a bar, alongside wellness facilities including a spa, gymnasium and swimming pool. The development will also incorporate extensive event and conference facilities, positioning it to capitalise on the city’s growing demand for meetings, weddings and social celebrations.

A key highlight of the project is its banqueting and events infrastructure. The property will offer more than 8,000 square feet of banquet space supported by pre-function areas and conference facilities, enabling it to cater to corporate gatherings, conventions, weddings and social events. Industry observers note that demand for organised event venues continues to grow in Lucknow alongside the city’s expanding hospitality landscape.

Lucknow’s hospitality sector has benefited considerably from improved connectivity, including airport expansion, new road infrastructure and rapid urbanisation. In addition to its importance as a commercial hub, the city remains a major cultural tourism destination known for its Nawabi heritage, architectural landmarks and celebrated culinary traditions, creating demand across both business and leisure travel segments.

Varun Gavri, Director of Kripanidhi Hospitality Pvt. Ltd., said the partnership with IHCL would bring a trusted hospitality brand to the city while addressing the evolving requirements of modern travellers.

The project further expands IHCL’s rapidly growing presence in Uttar Pradesh. With the addition of Gateway Lucknow, the company will have 64 hotels in the state, including 27 properties currently under development. The signing follows a series of expansion announcements by IHCL across key markets in Uttar Pradesh, underscoring the company’s confidence in the state’s long-term tourism and business travel potential.

As hotel companies increasingly look beyond India’s traditional gateway cities, the new Gateway hotel reflects both Lucknow’s growing prominence and IHCL’s commitment to expanding its footprint across high-potential urban and tourism destinations.
