Housekeepers Conclave 5.0 Highlights Future-Ready Workforce, Innovation and Leadership in Housekeeping

The Professional Housekeepers Association (PHA)–North Chapter, in collaboration with the India International Hospitality Expo (IHE) 2026, successfully hosted Housekeepers Conclave 5.0 at the India Expo Centre & Mart, Greater Noida, bringing together leading hospitality professionals, academicians, facility managers, students and industry stakeholders from across India.

The event served as a significant platform to discuss emerging trends, workforce development, innovation and the evolving role of housekeeping in hospitality, healthcare, aviation and facility management sectors.

The conclave commenced with the ceremonial lamp lighting by Dr. Priyadarshan Lakhawat, Director, National Council for Hotel Management and Catering Technology (NCHMCT); Mr. Sudeep Samrendra Sarcar, Executive Director, India Exposition Mart Ltd.; Ms. Madhu Chandhok, Founder of Inspiring Innovative Hospitality; Mr. Nitin Shankar Nagrale, Group CEO, QualityNZ; and convenor Mrs. Bharti Singh Kalappa, Head–Facilities, Noida International Airport and National Vice President of PHA India.

In his keynote address, Dr. Lakhawat underscored the transformation of housekeeping from a traditional support service into a critical people-centric department that directly impacts guest satisfaction and business success. He advocated for specialised diploma programmes, enhanced industry exposure and greater awareness among students regarding the diverse career prospects within housekeeping.

Sharing personal experiences as a hotel guest, Dr. Lakhawat highlighted how small yet thoughtful gestures by housekeeping teams demonstrate professionalism, attention to detail and a commitment to service excellence. He encouraged young professionals to view housekeeping as a career offering leadership, entrepreneurship, global exposure and innovation.

A major attraction of the conclave was the Sales Pitch Competition, conceptualised by Mrs. Bharti Kalappa. Designed to expand professional perspectives beyond operational housekeeping, the competition challenged participants to evaluate hospitality products from commercial, sustainability and business standpoints. Contestants presented structured pitches covering product innovation, efficiency, environmental impact and procurement models.

Equally engaging was the Mood Board Competition, curated by Ms. Madhu Chandhok, which celebrated the creative and design-oriented side of housekeeping. Participants demonstrated how colour, texture, styling and aesthetics can transform spaces and enhance guest experiences.

The conclave also featured an interactive team-building exercise titled “Word Wizard,” curated by Mr. Ranajit Behera, adding an energetic and collaborative element to the proceedings.

One of the event’s highlights was the panel discussion, “Housekeeping 2030: Building, Retaining & Inspiring the Workforce of the Future.” Moderated by Mr. Nitin Shankar Nagrale, the session explored workforce challenges, technological integration and the changing expectations of the industry.

Panelists emphasised the need for greater recognition and remuneration for housekeeping professionals, stronger industry-academia partnerships, technology integration including Artificial Intelligence, and continuous skill enhancement. While acknowledging the growing influence of technology, speakers stressed that empathy, communication and the human touch remain irreplaceable qualities in service-oriented professions.

The conclave concluded with awards, recognitions and felicitation of distinguished industry contributors, jury members, panelists and organising committee members. A networking session and vote of thanks reaffirmed PHA’s commitment to advancing the housekeeping profession through innovation, leadership development, skill-building initiatives and industry collaboration.

With enthusiastic participation from hospitality, healthcare, aviation and facility management sectors, Housekeepers Conclave 5.0 emerged as a landmark event celebrating the vital role of housekeeping professionals and shaping the future direction of the profession in India.
