Summit Hotels & Resorts is expanding its footprint in the Eastern Himalayas with a 24-room retreat in Samthar, West Bengal, aiming to bring travellers to one of the region’s lesser-known mountain destinations.
As interest in offbeat and nature-led travel continues to grow, Summit Hotels & Resorts has announced a new hospitality project in Samthar, a scenic hill destination in West Bengal that remains largely undiscovered by mainstream tourists. The upcoming property, Summit Samthar – The Offbeat Collection, is expected to open between October and November 2026 and will feature 24 rooms overlooking the Kanchenjunga range.
Located about 30 kilometres from Siliguri, Samthar is known for its forests, tea gardens, mountain landscapes, and tranquil surroundings. Unlike more established hill stations in the region, the destination offers opportunities for slow travel, hiking, birdwatching, and immersive nature experiences.
The new retreat will include private balcony rooms, a restaurant, landscaped lawns, a tea garden, children’s recreation spaces, and outdoor relaxation areas designed to help guests connect with the natural surroundings. The project will become part of Summit’s recently launched Offbeat Collection, a portfolio focused on destinations beyond traditional tourist circuits.
Commenting on the development, Sumit Mitruka, Founder & CEO of Summit Hotels & Resorts, said the company sees strong potential in emerging destinations that offer authentic travel experiences while creating meaningful economic opportunities for local communities. He noted that hospitality investments in lesser-known locations can generate employment, support local businesses, and contribute to destination development.
The signing reinforces Summit’s strategy of expanding deeper into the Eastern Himalayan region, where travelers are increasingly looking beyond conventional destinations. The company expects the property to attract leisure tourists seeking new experiences while encouraging longer stays and broader exploration of North Bengal.
