Historic Frankfurt landmark joins the Taj portfolio as IHCL expands its luxury footprint across key global gateway cities.
Indian Hotels Company (IHCL) has marked a major milestone in its international expansion strategy with the opening of Taj Hessischer Hof Frankfurt, bringing the iconic Taj brand to continental Europe for the first time. Located in Frankfurt’s prominent trade fair district, the hotel combines the legacy of the historic Hessischer Hof with Taj’s signature luxury hospitality experience.
The opening strengthens IHCL’s presence in Europe and positions Frankfurt, one of the continent’s leading business and financial hubs, as a strategic gateway for the Taj brand. The property occupies the former Grandhotel Hessischer Hof, a landmark hotel that has been extensively restored and reimagined while preserving its heritage and character.
The hotel features 126 keys, comprising 117 rooms and nine suites, along with an extensive luxury offering that includes Bombay Brasserie, Taj’s renowned Indian restaurant concept, the revived Jimmy’s Bar, a lobby lounge, the brand’s signature J Wellness Circle Spa, a fitness centre and The Chambers, Taj’s exclusive members-only business club.
Speaking on the significance of the opening, Puneet Chhatwal, Managing Director and CEO of IHCL, said the launch marks Taj’s entry into continental Europe and aligns with the company’s strategy of expanding into major international gateway cities. He noted that the opening reinforces Taj’s position as a global luxury hospitality brand while bringing its distinctive blend of Indian warmth and world-class service to a new market.
The official opening celebrations were attended by representatives from Frankfurt’s business, political, cultural and social communities. Albert Mayr, General Manager of Taj Hessischer Hof Frankfurt, described the reopening as the continuation of an important chapter in the city’s hospitality history, combining the property’s iconic legacy with a contemporary vision for the future.
According to IHCL executives, the property represents a significant step in the company’s global growth journey. By entering one of Europe’s most important commercial centres, IHCL aims to strengthen the international visibility of the Taj brand while offering guests a unique combination of European elegance and Indian hospitality.
With the opening of Taj Hessischer Hof Frankfurt, IHCL has added a prestigious European address to its portfolio, reinforcing its ambition to establish Taj among the world’s leading luxury hotel brands.
